Giovani Lo Celso Eager to Force Through Tottenham Move After Betis Reject Opening Bid

Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is ‘trying to force’ a move away from Spain, with Tottenham being his apparent preferred destination.

After two transfer windows without any additions, Tottenham are believed to be in the market for new recruits this summer, as Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy look to build on their achievement of reaching the Champions League final and ​keep manager Mauricio Pochettino happy.

23-year-old Argentina international is one of Spurs top targets this summer. Pochettino’s side have already had a bid of up to £62m rejected – an offer which is some way off the player’s release clause of over £80m. However, Lo Celso’s representatives are confident the club would consider offers in the region of £70m, according to the Mirror.

The report claims the offer Spurs had rejected was a £50m plus add-ons deal, with matters being complicated by the significant sell-on fee Betis would have to give to Lo Celso’s former club Paris Saint-Germain.

Nonetheless, Lo Celso ‘fancies’ the move and is eager to team up with fellow Argentine Pochettino in north London in what would be a record-breaking transfer for the club.

Despite reaching the Champions League final this season, Spurs are tipped for a summer of change, with several first-team stars like Kieran Trippier and Fernando Llorente likely to depart, while Christian Eriksen’s future hangs in the balance.

Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon is another player linked with a potential move to Tottenham, who appear willing to spend significantly more this summer than they have in recent times. 

Following relegation from England’s top tier just a year after gaining promotion, it’s almost inevitable that Fulham will have to sell their most promising youth prospect, but he won’t come cheap.

The likes of Tanguy Ndombele, James Maddison, Jarrod Bowen and even Gareth Bale have all also been linked with a move to north London.
