Liverpool 3-1 Man City: Social Media Reacts to Stunning Goals, the 8-Point Lead & VAR…Obviously

Sirens are blaring in the distance, a multitude of fires have been started, and half the population of Merseyside is topless in the streets. Liverpool have beaten Manchester City at Anfield, and it has all gone off. 

​The Reds ran riot in an exemplary performance that ​extended their lead at the top of the division to eight points, and though the title is nowhere near won just yet, the win was one that really shifted the momentum even further in the direction of Jürgen Klopp’s men. 

It all started when Fabinho did the sort of thing that Fabinho…doesn’t often do. On six minutes, the number three thundered in a spectacular strike to get things started. 



It wasn’t without its controversy, however.

Just prior, Trent Alexander-Arnold had appeared to handle the ball in the Liverpool box, but a VAR check ruled against pulling play back for a penalty. It split opinion, with ​City fans unhappy, while those of a Red persuasion argued that Bernardo Silva had handled first. 




It proved not to matter too much in the end, however. Liverpool capitalised, with strikes from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané putting the game beyond doubt before the hour mark. 







The win was not confirmed before Bernardo Silva threatened to make a game of it, however, sweeping in at the back post to ensure Liverpool will wait for a home clean sheet this season.

It was a deserved win for Liverpool in the end, and one that moves them eight points clear at the top of the league. 

There are those, however, who expressed their doubts at the legitimacy of the win, with an incredibly original video assistant referee-themed jibe.
