LA Galaxy Agree Deal to Extend Loan of Boca Juniors Forward Cristian Pavon

LA Galaxy have agreed a deal with Boca Juniors to extend the loan of Cristian Pavon for the 2020 season.

The MLS side signed Pavon on loan back in August, and the forward has performed well scoring three goals and registering eight assists in 11 games. This included going eight games in a row of contributing at least one goal or assist.

The club announced the re-signing of the player on their official website, stating that Pavon would take up a Designated Player and International roster spot in the team.

The 23-year-old had been playing in the Argentine Primera Division since 2012, until he made the move to the USA earlier this year. Pavon was also a key member of the Argentina side who took part in the World Cup last year, playing in all of his side’s games during the competition.

LA Galaxy’s 2019 campaign ended at the Conference Semi-Final stage, with Los Angeles FC beating them 5-3. However, they will start the 2020 MLS season with an away fixture against David Beckham’s newly created side Inter Miami CF on 14 March.

The five-time MLS Cup winners have failed to get their hands on the trophy since 2014, and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic announcing his departure from the club, they will need Pavon to step up and replace the iconic Swede.

He has big boots to fill, as Ibrahimovic bagged 52 goals in 56 games for the club since signing back in 2018. However, despite his boastful nature and inflated ego, he failed to bring the MLS Cup back to LA Galaxy.

The 38-year-old has been linked with a move back to Serie A and has demanded typically huge wages. Bologna, Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina have all showed interest in the player, while former club AC Milan would also be keen on bringing the big striker back to the San Siro.
