Everton Directors Meet to Discuss Marco Silva’s Future With David Moyes Touted as Interim Manager

​Everton manager Marco Silva is fighting for his job at Goodison Park following Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Norwich City.

The Toffees have fallen to 15th in the Premier League, having won just four of their 13 league games this season. They have suffered plenty of shock defeats but a loss to Norwich, who were bottom of the league heading into the game, is seen as the worst so far.

As noted by ​BBC Sport, club directors are concerned that the club are moving in the wrong direction, and they called Silva to an emergency meeting after the defeat to ​Norwich to discuss what is going wrong.

They want to maintain stability and support Silva for as long as possible, despite fans expressing their frustration from the stands on Saturday.

Regardless of their determination, they may have no choice but to move on from Silva as a result of the toxic atmosphere at Goodison Park. Fans were heard joining in chants from the Norwich end which told Silva “you’re getting sacked in the morning”.

According to ​The Telegraph, Silva feared he could lose his job after the Norwich defeat, but it now appears as though the may be given the chance to turn things around when they face ​Leicester City next Sunday.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri met with chairman Bill Kenwright, chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale and director of football Marcel Brands to discuss Silva’s future almost immediately after the full-time whistle on Saturday, and they discussed the possibility of accepting defeat and moving on from the boss.

However, the main problem is the lack of potential replacements for Silva. Both David Moyes and Mark Hughes have been touted as potential successors, but it is uncertain whether either would be given a long-term contract to take over.

A large part of the frustration surrounding Silva is the fact that ​Everton spent so heavily during the summer. The likes of Moise Kean, ​Alex Iwobi and ​André Gomes were all brought in on expensive deals, but Everton have still found themselves locked in a relegation battle.

If Everton do choose to keep Silva, his Everton side will still be underdogs against high-flying Leicester. However, an improved performance is all that fans want to see.
