Watford Sack Quique Sanchez Flores Less Than 3 Months After Return to Vicarage Road

Watford have opted to sack manager Quique Sanchez Flores just three months after he returned to the club to replace Javi Gracia.

The Hornets have won just one Premier League game all season and lay bottom of the table, six points away from safety. Sanchez Flores was the man to oversee that victory, a 2-0 success over Norwich in early November, but he’s unable to improve the club’s fortunes after replacing Gracia in early September, just months after Watford had reached the FA Cup final.

The 2-1 defeat to relegation rivals Southampton appears to have been the last straw for the club’s owner Gino Pozzo, famed for his impatience with his managers, after the Hornets surrendered a goal advantage with less than 15 minutes to play.

His sacking has now been confirmed by the club in a short statement released on the club’s official website.

“Quique is a man of great integrity and it was clear how much he wanted to have a positive impact, but ultimately results have dictated our decision,” said Hornets’ Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury.

“The appointment of a new Head Coach is imminent, and with nearly two-thirds of the season remaining, we will provide all the support necessary to make the coming months successful.

“No further comment from Watford FC will be made until a new Head Coach is announced.

The Hornets situation is unlikely to improve over a busy festive period, unless they can pull off a number of surprising results against some of the Premier League’s biggest teams.

Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester United and surprise package Sheffield United are among the sides that Watford play before the end of the year, with a home victory yet to be secured this campaign.
