Real Madrid Eye Ambitious Double Swoop for Napoli Duo Kalidou Koulibaly & Fabian Ruiz

Real Madrid are set to make a mega money bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly next summer, and are said to be already in negotiations with the club regarding central midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

Los Blancos are set to capitalise on the current mess at Napoli, both on and off the field. After finishing second in Serie A last season, I Partenopei currently sit eight points off the top four and 16 off of the top two – occupying seventh in the table. The club has also seen a complete breakdown in relations between the Napoli players and the hierarchy – with President Aurelio De Laurentiis prepared to sell the majority of the club’s stars after the Napoli team boycotted a training ‘retreat’ organised by De Laurentiis.

Real are searching for a new heir at the heart of their defence, with Sergio Ramos’ current deal expiring in 2021 when he’ll be 34. And despite signing Porto’s Eder Militao for £45m last summer, Real are expected to go all-out in order to secure Koulibaly’s services next summer, according to Calciomercato.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Since arriving from Genk for a fee just shy of £7m in 2014, the 28-year-old has made 229 appearances for the Naples-based outfit and his performances over the past couple of years has seen him establish himself as one of Europe’s finest centre-back exports.

Koulibaly has made the Serie A Team of the Year four times (every season since 2015/16), was voted the league’s best defender in 2018/19 and was recently nominated for FIFA’s FIFPro World 11 this year.

It’s believed that Real Madrid won’t have it all their own way in their pursuit of the Napoli centre-half, with Manchester United set to rival the Spanish giants for his signature.

Fabian Ruiz

Their pursuit of Fabian, however, will likely run much smoother – with the Spaniard refusing to sign a new deal at Napoli and, according to Cadena Ser, is keen on a move to the Bernabeu.

The Spaniard has established himself as a key figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s side since arriving from Real Betis in 2018, making 57 appearances for the club. His fine displays in a Napoli shirt last season saw Fabian make his senior debut for Spain in June this year, going on to represent the national side on six occasions up to this point.
