Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted that he is focussing on his short term future with Wolves, with speculation continuing to link him the vacant Arsenal manager’s position.
The Gunners relieved Unai Emery of his duties following a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, during which some fans choose to hold up #EmeryOut placards.
Arsenal have placed former player Freddie Ljungberg in interim charge of the side, but it has been reported that the Wolves manager is one of their top targets to take over permanently.
Speaking before the Wanderers game against West Ham on Wednesday, the 45-year-old insisted that his focus was on the his current club’s immediate future but refused to categorically rule out a move to the Gunners.
“I still have a contract, for me it’s more important that I focus on what I have to do today,” he said, quoted by the Express and Star.
“I’m focused on tomorrow’s game, it’s the most important moment. West Ham is our present.
“We are day-by-day, me, I live hour-by-hour. I know what I have to do next and I still have a lot of work to do.”
As exclusively revealed by 90min earlier in the week, Wolves are anxious to agree a new long-term contract with their manager following Arsenal’s interest, and this interview will do little to arrest fears over the former Porto boss’ future.
In the same pre-match press conference, Espirito Santo raised concerns over his current side’s congested December fixture schedule.
Wolves will play eight games this month, including a daunting double header against Manchester City and Liverpool after Christmas.

“It’s not human, the amount of games we have, if we increase that with international players it becomes really tough. We expect the FA (and Premier League) to attend to in the future and try to find a solution.”
