The next Premier League meeting on Thursday is expected to include discussions over paying respect to all those that have sadly died as a result of the coronavirus crisis, as well as whether clubs and players will show support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

It has been three months since Premier League was last played and the world has enormous levels of upheaval during that time.

The Daily Mail writes that the Premier League are ‘keen to recognise’ that events, which includes more than 40,000 coronavirus related deaths in the UK alone and the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in the United States.

Clubs are already expected to display heart-shaped NHS logos on their kits when games resume from 17 June, but the Mail report adds that a minute-long silence could also become part of the pre-game events to pay respects to all those who have lost their lives.

Some clubs have already shown solidarity with the Blacks Lives Matter protest by sharing images of players ‘taking a knee’ during training sessions. It is suggested there is a desire to incorporate that as well, as has already been the case in Germany ahead of Bundesliga games.

It appears the point of discussion in the Premier League meeting will be about how to go about holding both, with the Mail explaining that talks will focus on whether the gestures are simultaneous or are staggered, and for how long they will be observed as the season progresses.

Assuming all safety measures can be observed and there are no setbacks, the Premier League season will restart at 6pm on 17 June when Aston Villa host Sheffield United at Villa Park. Later that same day, Manchester City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool on 21 June has also been given the go-ahead to be played at Goodison Park following meeting by the local Ground Safety Advisory Group.
