Campbell unsure of Arsenal future as he returns to London

Joel Campbell says he is unsure of his Arsenal future as he returns to the club for pre-season training.

The Costa Rica international did not take part in Arsenal’s pre-season trip to Singapore, and instead will report to London this weekend to join up with the club.

There, the 26-year-old faces an uncertain future. Campbell admits that he doesn’t know what plans the club have for him.

“This weekend, I’m traveling and they’ll decide what’s coming next,” Campbell told La Nacion.

“I know that I have a lot left to show in football, so wherever it may be I’ll do things as well as possible to enjoy this sport.”

Campbell has struggled to find a home since moving to the Gunners in 2011 from Saprissa in his home country.

He has been loaned out six different times, last playing for Arsenal in the 2015-16 season.

Last season was especially trying for Campbell, who only made nine total appearances for Real Betis due to ankle and knee injuries.

“It was a tough season because of the injury,” Campbell said. “At the end I grew more as a person because I already had been through the good and the bad of football.

“Now with this you can be a better person in the face of the future.”

Campbell has one year remaining on his Arsenal contract and is ready to help his team in 2018-19, whichever club that may be.

”I’m good, happy about the season that’s coming. I hope it’ll be an important season for me and that God will free me from any injuries so I can give my best.”
