The clubs Edinson Cavani has scored the most goals against

Goals, goals, goals. That’s what you get from Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan has been one of the most prolific strikers in European football since making his debut for Palermo back in 2007. Cavani then went on to feature for Napoli three years later where, in 138 matches, he scored 104 goals. That record earned him a move to Paris Saint-Germain for just under £60m where he proved to be worth every penny as he became their all-time leading goal scorer with 200 goals.

The Matador ended the decade as the fourth highest scoring player in Europe’s top five leagues in a career that has been littered with goals from the very start, which a total of 88 clubs have found the hard way.

But which clubs have suffered the most at the hands of the prolific Uruguayan?

Dnipro made the mistake of being drawn against Napoli in the 2012/13 Europa League group stage.

Cavani scored seven goals in that year’s edition of the competition, five of which came against Dnipro, including this poker in a 4-2 win in their second meeting of the group.

Ajaccio were one of the many French teams to feel the wrath of Cavani during his time at PSG.

The Corsican side were the victims of the Uruguayan’s first PSG goal in August 2013.

Siena are now in the fourth tier of Italian football, but were lucky enough to be in the top flight while Cavani was bagging goals for fun.

The striker enjoyed his time against I Bianconeri, scoring five goals against them in Serie A.

Another French side to suffer at the hands of Cavani, as he notched five goals against them.

Two of those, including this header, came in his first season in France as PSG thumped them 4-0 in November 2013.

The Uruguayan striker scored five times against Cagliari – twice for Palermo and three times for Napoli.

Two of these were a match winning brace in a 2-1 victory in 2011, in his maiden campaign for Gli Azzurri.

Fiorentina gave Cavani some of his firsts during his spell in Serie A.

The Uruguayan scored his first Palermo goal against the Viola, while also scoring his first league goal for Napoli against them.

Very generous.

Another French club to have conceded five goals to the Matador, Lille shipped them all in Ligue 1 matches.

Those five included a brace in a 6-1 thrashing at the Parc des Princes in 2015. Skip to 0:58 and 2:55 in the highlights above for those two goals – the first being a sight to behold.

The Uruguayan netted six times against Lecce while in Italy, most of which came for Napoli.

He scored a screamer from around 30 yards in the 93rd minute against the south eastern side to earn a 1-0 win in December 2010. Yes, that goal is as good as it sounds.

The Old Lady weren’t immune to the powers of the Matador, and indeed succumbed to one of his vintage performances in January 2011.

The striker scored a hat trick of headers (or maybe two headers and a scorpion kick…) to earn a 3-0 win over Juventus on a famous day for Napoli.

Cavani didn’t have the best of records against Bologna, winning only four times in ten meetings with the northern Italian side.

However, he did manage to bag six goals against them, including five in eight Serie A ties.

The figure of six could have been much worse reading for Caen, considering they conceded four goals to Cavani in one game in 2016.

The following year, the Uruguayan netted against them again to become the first play to score 50 clubs goals in 2017. Safe to say he liked playing against them.

The Uruguayan found success against the southern French club, finding himself on the losing side only once against them.

Cavani found the net six times against Nice, including a second half brace in 2016 to earn a draw after trailing 2-0 at half-time.

The striker found a lot of joy against another Corse side in Bastia. Cavani managed six goals against the club during his time at PSG.

These six included his first brace in PSG colours, including this sublime effort in their 4-0 win during the 2013/14 season.

Genoa also suffered at the hands of the Matador, letting in six goals from the striker.

Two of those came on the opening matchday of the 2011/12 Serie A campaign as Napoli thrashed Genoa 6-1.

Cavani was a menace to Stade Rennais, among many others. The striker managed six against them in 12 outings.

He scored a brace against the side in January 2019, including capping off the beautiful team move above for PSG’s fourth.

Matchday five of the 12/13 campaing was the last time Cavani netted against Lazio and, boy, was it a game to remember.

The then Napoli man scored all three goals in a 3-0 romp of I Biancocelesti against his national team colleague Fernando Muslera, including this cute lob for the first.

How’s that for a 93rd minute equaliser? Not bad, eh?

That was one of the seven goals Cavani scored against PSG’s rivals Marseille in ten appearances. The Parisian side never lost to Marseille when the Uruguayan was on the pitch.

Not the best record against Parma, as Cavani won only six games out of 11 when facing them throughout his time in Italy.

However, he did manage seven goals in those 11 meetings, all coming in Serie A.

Reims will have been ecstatic to see the back of the former PSG number forward earlier in the season.

Cavani managed seven goals – and two assists for good measure – in just six games against the French club.

The Matador has eight goals in eight games against Atalanta – the last two of them coming in March 2013 in a 3-2 win.

He might’ve extended his record last season as PSG drew the Italian side in the Champions League round of 16, but the striker wasn’t in the squad for the tie.

I Blucerchiati were another club to concede a hat trick to the prolific striker.

Cavani scored seven times in ten appearances against Sampdoria, most spectacularly hitting three goals in January 2011 in a 4-0 triumph – coming just 21 days after his hat trick against Juventus.

Cavani hasn’t enjoyed playing against Inter for the most part, losing half of his meetings against them. But he can take pride in scoring – yep, you’ve guessed it – a hat trick against them the last time he faced them.

The Uruguayan inspired his Napoli side to a 3-1 win in May 2013 with a treble against the Nerazzurri.

Well, Cavani never managed to net three in one game against Lyon, but he did enjoy playing against them. He averaged a goal every two games against them with nine in 18.

The striker netted his 199th goal for PSG back in February last year against Les Gones, as seen above.

Cavani did nothing but win against Nantes whenever he faced them, so it’s no surprise he found goal scoring form against them.

His nine includes a stunning free-kick for his second goal in this 2-0 victory over Les Canaris – skip to around 2:37 for that sublime set piece.

Seven losses in 12 encounters wouldn’t suggest the best of records for Cavani when it comes to Roma.

However the striker managed an impressive nine strikes in those 12 outings, including a treble in this 4-1 win in 2013.

Cavani’s ruthless goal scoring didn’t evade Bordeaux while the Uruguayan was in France. The Uruguayan managed 12 in just 13 games against them.

Despite never scoring a treble past the Bordeaux defence, Cavani will have fond memories of playing them, scoring his 200th in PSG colours with a trademark header in the box.

Despite being one of his worst victims, Cavani never managed more than a brace against Saint Etienne in one match.

But he probably won’t mind, having scored some beautiful goals against them in his time, including this effort from August 2014.

Now this is a team that has suffered at the hands of the Matador. A dozen goals in 13 games, including two hat tricks.

The most recent of those came in January 2019 when PSG beat Les Rouge Et Noir 9-0 in Ligue 1. Quite the trouncing.

Skip to 2:17, 2:39 and 3:16 in the video above to see the Matador make it 4-0, 5-0 and subsequently 7-0 – although all nine goals are worth the watch.

Cavani scored 200 goals in his spell in France, and Monaco felt it the most. The principality side conceded a whopping 15 goals to the Uruguayan, in 17 games while he was at PSG.

You won’t be too shocked to hear that those 15 strikes included a hat trick, in November 2018, in a 4-0 thumping of then-manager Thierry Henry’s Monaco side.
