Inter vs AC Milan – Coppa Italia quarter-final preview: How to watch on TV, live stream & prediction

Inter take on fierce rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-final on Tuesday night after both sides produced disappointing results in Serie A this weekend.

Stefano Pioli’s league leaders suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Atalanta and Inter were held to a frustrating draw at Udinese. Although the Scudetto remains the priority for both, thoughts of ending Juventus’ dominance will be sidelined temporarily for the second Derby della Madonnina of the season.

The last time either club won the Coppa Italia was way back in 2011 when Inter triumphed over Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. When the pair met in the league this season, it was the Rossoneri who came out on top, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring a brace.

Here is 90min’s preview of this cup quarter-final that should be a cracker…

AC Milan are missing Gianluigi Donnarumma due to suspension, so Ciprian Tatarusanu is expected to deputise. Alessio Romagnoli is expected to return to the defence but Pioli will still be without key midfielders Hakan Calhanoglu and Ismael Bennacer.

Inter: (3-5-2): Handanovic; Bastoni, De Vrij, Skriniar; Perisic, Gagliardini, Brozovic, Barella, Young; Martinez, Lukaku.

AC Milan: (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Calabria, Romagnoli, Kjaer, Hernandez; Tonali, Kessie, Castillejo, Diaz, Leao; Ibrahimovic.

Having lost to both Juventus and Atalanta since the turn of the year, it’s fair to say AC Milan have struggled on the big occasions of late. Inter, having defeated the reigning champions just eight days ago, would have hoped to push on at Udinese but it wasn’t to be.

The pair have become somewhat inconsistent in recent weeks, making this one even more difficult to call. As mentioned, the Coppa Italia is by no means the priority for either side this season, but the fact they have been drawn against one another adds greater meaning to it.

Inter’s strength in depth and fewer personnel issues right now should give them the edge – I’m leaning slightly towards the Nerazzurri to come out on top.

Prediction: Inter 1-0 AC Milan
